Hello,

Picked up this little curiosity last week. Had a feeling it had some age to it, but after trying to research online, am at a loss!

It is very light weight, painted a smooth gold finish, there is greening to the top which you get with copper. Very strange little thing, think it is actually hollow inside as it is so light!

Anyone seen anything like it? It is stamped France on the back, measures approx: 1.5" x 1.5" (at widest points)

Thanks very much xx

Thanks guys! I just tried it on my dress and it looked very good, it is very charming. I thought they came in pairs, shame I don't have the other one! Thanks for your replies :)

I have many single dress clips. many pairs, and a few sets with three clips - so it definitely varied. They were most popular in the 1930's but started in the late 1920's in fine jewelry and were still worn into the 1950's. They were usually worn in pairs on the neckline, and during the depression women often used dress clips to change the look of their outfit - changing the neckline by using dress clips. You can sometimes tell the age by the design, materials used, colors used and the finding of the clip. In the US the findings were usually patented so that helps with the dating - a little. You know it can't be "earlier" than the patent date.
