Vintage Red Mahogany Fur Coat - Pieced Mink? Era?

Hi all,
I have a deep reddish brown fur coat.
It has characteristics of mink, however, I found an opening and the pelts that are stitched together look very small. Could this be pieced mink?

The lining is greenish brown solid silk satin there are no labels or tags. As there isn't any shoulder padding or narrowing in the waist, could this be from the 50s?

Thanks for your help!
Brooke

I cannot tell for certain due to the way it's pieced together however I think this may be Muskrat crafted to look like Mink. One of the identifiers in vintage Muskrat that is not so prevalent in mink is the guardhair wear along the collar and opening edges.
Thank you Caryn. I keep feeling my mink capelet and it's much softer in texture than this coat, which made me start to wonder if it actually was mink. The underfur is soft, but not as plentiful and the guard hairs seem similar in texture to mink but again not quite as pliable as mink if that makes sense. Also, thank you for pointing out the wear on the collar and opening edges as a sign of muskrat fur as I can file this away into my mental fur bank.

Your description of the fur texture, "The underfur is soft, but not as plentiful and the guard hairs seem similar in texture to mink but again not quite as pliable as mink," sounds like an accurate description of Muskrat.
