when you advertise you items on ebay.... or for sale......

do you use the words vintage.....or retro......?

what era's do they describe to you ?.....as now that they are classing early 90's as collectable /vintage in some places....

i was just wondering what they discriptions mean to some peeps........

as to me retro.. represents the 60's ..70's with all the bold and sicadelic ( yes i know i spelled it as it sounded...as i just cant for the life of me get my brain into gear this morning ...lol..)....

even though i started collecting over 20 years ago....it was from local charity shops etc....so never been to a vintage fair or anywhere that specialises in old clothing.....and the local autions if they do have clothes or accessories they are 'just a by the way thing' to bulk up the amount of stuff they have in the auction.. not because they think they are worh a lot of money

it would be nice to hear what these 2 discriptive words.....mean to you.....

Hmm, good question! I must say I'm personally not a fan of "retro". To me it's a very cheap word, like describing a knockoff. Retro is a new dress being described as having characteristics of another era. Like when you cruise ebay and see all those NWT strapless dresses being called 50's retro. Not the real deal. I only do vintage, not retro. If that makes ANY sense.

Though that's not to say it's a bad KW, I'm sure alot of folks like using it and if it works for them, awesome. Just not my bag. Baby. :hysterical:

thanks kim.....i see what you mean... as i have noticed a lot of new stuff being advertised in that way...

i must admit i do use the word retro.....with some of my 60's 70's items.....as i feel it attracts the student ...and younger hip people ....maybe its the austin power thing......lol.....

I know there are some who are not too keen on the word "retro" but the 1st defination of the word in my dictionary is "backward" and the word "retrospect" means "to look backward". ........According to my sellathon stats, the word is a good keyword and is searched within the vintage category or just the main "clothing" category. I don't think there is enough evidence to say for sure that the buyers think of retro as being either strickly new/vintage or old/vintage....But if buyers are searching for it, I will use it occasionally. But that's just me.....

I always use "vintage" (or now that it is recognized by
ebay, "vtg") in my titles as this is a main search keyword.

For 60s items, especially the funky, or kitschy items, I have used "retro" too.
