Vintage Rhinestone Belt

Sarara Brazil

I have seen quite a few various of these some very identifiable as 20's-30's and some 50's. This particular belt is in excellent condition as if never worn. I have seen exactly the same belt style thicker and with the square buckle -usually identified as 50's. These are sort of collectible and I want to get opinions before I list it for sale. I am just not sure on this as it could be 70's but usually those are thinner. Thanks for your opinions.

Can't help you with the dating, but I love it. Will you email me off the site and let me know where you list it (so long as it's not for a 22" waist!)? I don't think this breaks any rules. I'm sure someone will let me know if I'm wrong. ; ) Thanks. Liza

Thanks, my thoughts were the same - but I have a new first baby and I've been off lately:) Here is the back.

I think these are VERY hard to date. Several years ago (2004) I bought this brand new pin at a Gift and Jewelry show in Honolulu. It truly "looks" vintage because this same "rhinestone chain" construction is still being used. I would say that your belt is not earlier than the 1950's but it could be more recent, as well. I bought a rhinestone chain belt in the late '90's. I think yours is older but hard to say for sure.

Congratulations on your brand new baby!

Thanks! For sure, Rhinestone items can be tricky. That is when I usually look at the age of the lady, estate and such to help me as well:) In this case there are a few stones which have yellowed so that seems like a good sign too. Thanks everyone for your input.

Rhinestones can yellow if they are not stored properly and that can happen in a very short time. Another thing to keep in mind is that just because an item belonged to a "little old lady" - doesn't mean she bought it years ago! I have to run out the door - but years ago when I was fairly "new" - I bought some jewelry from a neighbor that belonged to her grandmother. I had purchased a similiar piece on eBay - and thought all the pieces were really "old" - but discovered they were much newer! (All rhinestone chain construction.)

I bought the pin I showed as an example of a "new" piece that is made in the same manner as an earlier one. I'm not saying that your belt is "new" or even "newer" just that it's hard to date!

Agreed! I think on this one for now I'll list it as 50's. Thanks and let me know if someone else agrees or has found anything different. I have a few more hard to date clothing items I'm dieing to post soon. Thanks again all.

Sarara, show the back if you can. Although dating these are always tricky in a pic, there can be clues, including coloration, plating, oxidation if any, and so forth. You'll notice that in Linn's pin, it has the newer pinback (these newer hooded c-catches) -- and found on a lot of contemporary Asian made pieces.

I agree with Linn that these can be a challenge to date. Given the buckle shape and size and some yellowing, it's leaning toward the dating you've stated, based on what we can see so far.

Thanks don't think it was used much except for the few condition issues mentioned. The rhinestone settings and design look 50's but the back is in good condition medium plating -camera makes it look a little shinny too. That's where the question is but I think I will take a look at an exact same 50's one on etsy I just found to see the back on these. The one there is identical.

Okay just looked at another online listed on etsy and she states 50's but they are rhodium plated. All three I found online have the same design and stones. The second even wider one appears to be the same maker all medium plating and shinny- again one stated rhodium. It looks like another rhodium piece I have when next to each other. I can post the link to hers if anyone wants. I think that's it though!
