Vintage San Francisco

Hi there!

I'm heading to San Francisco and then to Napa Valley for a week, and, as always, I'm on the look-out for some vintage shopping opportunities.

I've looked at the "Real Vintage Stores" thread and I was surprised there weren't any SF brick and mortar stores that were members of the VFG - is that the case?

I see a couple outside of town including Santa Rosa (which I might be able to visit since we're heading north through Napa), is there any one else in the neighbourhood?

Any other vintage-y sorts of experiences you'd recommend, like diners, art collections, architecture, music, etc?

Many thanks!

If you like looking at fine antique jewelry I recommend Lang which is across the street from Torso.

I have purchased from Torso and haven't noticed remodelling but the prices are high. If you are interested in something you should ask for a better price!

If it was 1979 I could help you! I went into a fabulous vintage clothing store in Haight Ashbury and bought a blue satin suit with silver thread embroidery from c. 1916 for $60.00...

There are quite a few vintage shops in the Haight. Decades is wonderful, but not cheap. I don't see it on the list Amanda sent though. La Rosa is another favorite. Several of the Haight stores are owned by the same person, who is really nice but not a vfg member, as far as I know.

There are b&m stores down the Peninsula and in San Jose, but it sounds like you are headed North. Try Petaluma for fun shopping--there used to be some good antique places there.

Non-clothing wise, check the Art Deco Society of CA web site--they often have walking tours of SF architecture. If you like museums, the De Young and the Ca Academy of Sciences are worth a visit just for the amazing buildings they are housed in now. They are across from each other in Golden Gate Park.
