Vintage shops in NYC

Hi,

I'm on my way to New York city this weekend, and was hoping for some tips on shops that I could hit.

I did read the last thread on NYC but was hoping for some more specifics.

I'm looking for mid range shops I suppose. Not sure what prices are like in NYC but I am used to Toronto prices. I'm generally interested in 50's pieces. Price range for average day dresses $50 or so. So not high end designer stuff but not t shirts and jeans galore. My husband is also hoping to find some good mens stuff same era same sort of price range.

So if anyone has some words of wisdom I would greatly appreciate it for my trip planning.

Thanks

Moira

I sell at a market here in California and we get tons of New Yorkers who come in to shop vintage because it's cheaper to fly here and buy than to buy there. Don't expect any bargains.
The owners of Cherry come to shop and have bought many pairs of shoes from me and my neighbors, they even have a shoe warehouse, designers browse for a fee. They have an amazing eye for unique pieces.

You might want to check out resale shops in Hoboken and in Fort lee New jersey Just over the bridge... But its really impossible to get good vintage at a good price in NYC.

Gotcha - sort of suspected this.

Anywhere in Hoboken and Fort Lee in particular? Or any street in particular?

Thanks

Hi guys...was in nyc in january and wanted to visit the flea markets...
went to what I heard was the biggest- though I cant remember the name now...was told and I read that there were over 200 vendors...
only when I went there were 20 vendors at the most...I went on a Saturday...where did I go wrong???

any tips for future reference when doing the flea markets in nyc...or anywhere else for that matter??

On wednesday and sat there is the flea market the Meadowlands- but due to weather I dont know if they are still open. But they are not that great In the city there is the 6th avenue market...

I would look in the yellow pages under resale thrift and take a trip to jersey.. Though it probally will also be pricey.

If you were brave I would go to Paterson NJ - but that is like telling some to go to Bedford Styvescant....
