Vintage Wedding Dress Dating Help

Hello everyone! I recently bought this wedding dress and I can't figure out what era it's from. My guess is that it's 1940s-- it has a metal zipper, pinked seams... Underneath the jacket, the dress is strapless. The lower part of the dress has two layers-- the outer one, and one hidden underneath. The lower back of the dress also has an opening? And I couldn't find anything on the label, though it certainly looks old! So, what do you guys think?

Hi Ruby, what a stunning wedding dress!. I think it is more likely to be mid-late 1950s myself, the sleeve and collar detail on it reminds me strongly of my mothers wedding gown from around the mid 50s . Hopefully one of our Canadian members will recognise the label for you which will help date it :)

Hi Ruby,
I did a quick search and Waxman's is still going and run by the 3rd generation Waxman!, they began in 1927 and have always specialised in wedding and formal wear, with an emphasis on servicing and renting tuxedos from an early stage.
I should contact them and see what they can tell you from their own archives, here is the contact address: [email protected]

For my part I'm wondering how that collar stands when worn, It would help in this instance to photograph the dress modelled, to see how full the skirt is, and how the jacket hangs/is fitted.

At the moment I think it is 1960's, looking at period patterns helps; I see button back over tops in the early 60's and long sleeves from mid 60s. It was that gothic font on the label just got me thinking 60's, rather than earlier. Fushia pink is also generally a 50's/60's colour.

The slit in the back of the skirt is for ease getting in. Sometimes these have poppers added to close them, or possibly a belt/sash ribbon ending in a large decorative bow with tails to cover it.

Thanks guys! Your inputs have definitely been helpful :) And as for how the dress fits, I don't currently have a mannequin, but the dress hangs pretty straight, then kind of widens out at the bottom (though it was very form fitting) And as for the jacket, it was also form fitting, but was loose around the bottom (if that makes sense?)
