Visit to a time-warp store

What a great place! Reminds me of the shop where I bought the first vintage Barbie doll in my collection in about '92. This 70s doll was originally packed, and I bought her at the original price. Every Barbie Doll collector here in Switzerland that I know knew this shop - it was full of old stock like that. But it's gone now, sadly.

I should have asked the price.

He is a real card, and loves to talk about the store and the town of Saluda. And he had to know all about me. Believe it or not, we have a mutual acquaintance, and our towns are about 60 miles apart. I have a feeling he is 6 degrees separated from all of North Carolina!

It's an amazing place. How sad they've got to sell with no-one to pass it on to. You certainly have a knack for finding these interesting, unique little gems. I'm always interested to read your articles. Keep up the great work! :clapping:

There is a shop like that near me, all NOS, unfortunately it's all 80's so the little gems are few and far between..but.. I did clean out their prom dress stock a few years back

wow what a gem of a place..... its a hoarder's paradise:o

pitty there wasnt a few like-minded people that could buy that place, and keep that time warp going...

We have a time warp photo store near me in Chicago. It also has an elderly gentleman owner. The shop isn't as old as that one in North Carolina but it seems to be from the 40s. The owner is really sweet and will go out of his way to help you. I always try and buy from him to make sure he doesn't go out of business any time soon!

I love time warp shops too! Lizzie, I would have bought all of his old shoes (the ones you photographed, if they are for sale, that is).

Shops like that are very few and far between in Australia, we're such a new country. There were a few shop in the 1980s but they've mostly all gone now although I recently heard about a menswear shop in Melbourne that's like stepping into the 1920s.

They gave me a brand new Speedo swimsuit from the early 1930s - it's navy cotton knit with the stickers and tags attached. I'm doing a swimwear exhibition in May, I might put it in there, with a reference to the amazing shop (I should go and take photos too, these places are on the endangered species list).

Just catching up on the forums today - its been a while!

I really enjoyed your report, Lizzie, and I hope you'll keep us posted on any developments. I suppose its too much to hope that someone will take it on and keep it going as it is . . .
