waldorf astoria boutique?

Just wondering if anyone knew of there being a boutique or clothing outlet in the Waldorf-Astoria hotel?

I have a very pretty (I think 50's) day to evening dress the label of which reads 'town and travel wear, waldorf-astoria'.

I'm assuming this must have been a line of clothing aimed at the hotels patrons? Nice dress - will take some snaps later.

This was on the hotel's website

Shopping
The legendary shops of Fifth and Madison Avenues are only minutes away, as are numerous art galleries and specialty shops. The hotel itself is home to some of the world's most luxurious boutiques. For information on shopping from the display cases in The Waldorf=Astoria lobby, contact the concierge"

So i would assume that back then, it was the same...

:BAGUSE:

How terrible, I completely forgot... Also forgot that I sent a spur of the moment email to the hotel, lol - this just arrived in my inbox:

"Dear Ms. Prone,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Town & Country shop at the
Waldorf=Astoria. Yes, this shop was one of several in the hotel for men
and ladies catering to the "carriage trade" in the 1940's and 1950's.
Although our archives have no reference to it I have seen archive
advertisements featuring it's location at the hotel which I believe was
at street level judging from the illustrations.

Sincerely,

Jim Blauvelt
The Waldorf=Astoria"

Bless them for replying! So it was as suspected, and now I HAVE to take a picture tonight :)

OOOOOOO - Harriet, I've never seen anything like it. It's gorgeous!!! What a find!

I just need to get it cleaned, as there are some faint marks under the arms. The green cummurbund is chiffon so I think I'll leave it to the cleaners as I am always afraid of cleaning 2 types of fabric together. The rest being cotton I'm hopeful for the cleaning results, but if not will keep it for myself (I'm not very fussy) - so good eitherway!:D
