Hello! I'm new here so I'm sorry if this isn't the right way of enquiring... I am in lust with 1950s dresses - in particular of the Chanel ilk. I'm thinking fitted bodice, strapless and frothy. Ivory favoured. Do any of you lovely ladies have something like this lying around?

My sizing is:

Bust: 36 inches
Waist: 28 inches
Hips: would like the dress free but I'm 39 inches

Look forward to hearing from you all.

I have a gorgeous tea length, all lace, very full skirt 50s
wedding dress, but the bust is only 34.

Good luck in your search!

Did you find a dress yet?

No. No luck. :( I'm going to a vintage fashion fair in July that may turn up something.

I tried on a fabulous vintage satin column dress (50s I think and very starlet) the other day which was totally different to what I envisaged and loved it so we're broadening our requirements. The condition just wasn't good enough to be the dress of my dreams though.

Hi Joules! Thanks for the Etsy tip - the Emma Domb was amazing but long sleeved unfortunately and I was after short or sleeveless.

That said, due to your Etsy tip off I have bought a gorgeous dress which was nothing like what I was after - totally different decade etc - but still beautiful. Hopefully I'll love it as much when it arrives. :)

Unfortunately it turned up and the condition is pretty poor - and I wasn't told. So, now I have a dress that will cost over 1,000USD to bring it up to level for wearing to my wedding. It's too expensive so I need to sell it on.

Any ideas?

What is exactly wrong with it that would make it cost over 1,000 to fix? (is that a quote from someone or a guess) You could have a whole other dress made for that. Does it need to be cleaned? Can it be refashioned because its so bad? Is the lace shot? What?

If the seller stated that the condition was excellent, I would contact the seller. Maybe they would accept a refund. If they stated that the dress had some damage, but maybe you didn't think it sounded bad, then maybe its a learning experience. If they did not state condition at all, I might bring it up to them that you cannot wear it because of the damage, and see what they do. Some folks tend to sell wedding dresses that are older regardless of condition figuring that maybe people just think they are pretty.

If it was very cheap and you think it was underpriced even in the condition that its in, then maybe selling it is an answer too.

Good luck with whatever you decide.
