Was Santa good to you?

Hello,
Just checking in to see if anyone got vintage for Christmas this year.
Pictures anyone?
I was thrilled to get a gift card from Goodwill from my husband this year, wahoo!

Happy Holidays,
Sue

I am happy it is over!!!! Always so much drama. The good part I fit into my first pair of skinny pants my husband got me which was two sizes smallr then I usually buy.

The bad news was that amongst the holiday drama I was accused of stealing a Xmas Gift.No appology when the gift was found. PLEASE SOMEONE ADOPT ME!

A goodwill giftcertificate sounds great!

-Chris

Thanks... I am wearing my pants and not answering my phone....

I am happy its all over.... MY HUsband and son who got the WII Fit are having a blast

-Chris

I'm soooo lucky in that neither my hubby's family nor mine are Holiday Drama kind of people. Both are laid back and generally fantastic.

Ok.. there is that ONE relative... but it's all good ;)

On the vintage front I got a really great glass paperweight that looks like it has the whole universe in it from the kids (my kiddo & her birth-mom's other kid who spends a LOT of time with us now. Yes, even Christmas.) - I have a small collection of them because they remind me of my Great Grandma :)
And I also got the BEST! PRESENT! EVER!

Hubby found a classic ballerina jewelry box, wound it up and wrapped it. So when I opened it up, the music started up and I saw this:

My very own red Bakelite bangle carved to look like bamboo. I've wanted one for SO LONG!!! Yay!
Hubby did good

I did not realize that those Goodwill GC's were available, Sue. Neat gift! Can you use it online too?

Way to go Chris!
I'm just glad the party circuit is over; I usually become ill from whatever is served. Maybe I should just not eat anything, and then I would have a chance for the skinny pants.

Kristine, that is total awesome city!
Doesn't get any better.

Den sniped this charmer for me:

And I took the photo with my new Canon SX 20 IS.
He even gave me a real tripod!

Nice camera.... Great picture..... Is life not easier with a great camera? Especially with small items....

Yeah I get sick around this time too much stange bad food. Been on a strick diet for a year and a half so I stray even a little and I dont feel well.... I just try to laod up on vegetable which have been tough to find at events which seem to be a cheesy red meat fest...... I usually bring my own food.... But I got lazy.....

Ohh, a goodwill card, that sounds nice. Savers does them here and I would love one of those, but not in my stocking this year. Congrats on the pants Chris. And Kristine, wow! What a nice thoughtful hubby you have there! Joules, - I see $$ in your future with you nice new camera!

I did get some vintage magazines from my mom and some great retro swimwear note cards from Jody, yay! Best vintage part for me though was giving my college aged niece a fox fur for Christmas. She went totally gaga over it. Had been talking about wanting a fur for months, how grandmas showed her hers but wouldn't let her wear it. Aunt Pam gave her her own. She is over the moon and I am happy to have a new vintage affcianado. Now her sister wants to go shopping with me. :singing:

I had a beautiful Christmas. All three of my sons and my oldest sons wife, stayed over Christmas Eve. First we went to my sisters house for Christmas Eve dinner which was very nice. My parents got to see all the boys together which is rare. Then we went back to my house It was a thrill for me to have us all wake up together Christmas morning. We started with a big breakfast and lots of stimulating conversation (all my sons love a friendly debate).

Then we opened gifts which overwhelmed my daughter in law because I'm all about volume when it comes to presents. I don't spend a fortune, I just wrap up anything that does not move (when the kids were little I even wrapped up their favorite cereal) Also I do a lot of vintage/second hand gift giving, I pick things up while I'm hunting for vintage all year so it's pretty easy. I found her a 90s Galliano, lace and metallic knit cardigan with fox fur collar and a pretty 90s Missoni skirt...her eyes just lit right up!

Later in the day we had friends over for dinner. It was a warm and wonderful afternoon.

This was the nicest Christmas I have had in years. They haven't all been gems, thats for sure, but this year felt very special and I'm still enjoying the glow.

Well, I got one very nice vintage pressie - a lovely white leather handbag - porbably 70s or 80s, from my best friend. She always finds something fun vintage...

And my mom got the vintage earrings I'd shown around here before Christmas, and she really liked them.
Otherwise I spent a quiet time - Christmas Eve with my parents, and on Christmas Day we visited granddad .

Between the holidays I had to work, and til this week now is over, it's lotsa overtime working, we've got a brochure to finish... that's also the reason why I haven't been posting for a bit.

New Year's was also spent at home, and the last weekend I was in Vienna for just two days - visiting my friend who's in hospital (the reason's not a happy one, and since the whole thing started 2 weeks before Christmas, I've spent the whole holiday-period in a somewhat subdued mood). On the upside, I managed to do some shopping at my fave vintage shops in Vienna too and fulfilled a personal dream - found a cute 1940s dress for myself - for an unbelievable 15 Euros...

My husband got me some beautiful vintage gifts! Among them a huge 1960's art glass sculpture, a gift certificate to my favorite Vancouver vintage boutique (it's already burning a hole in my pocket), and a 50's/60's faux fireplace - it's sooo cute.

My alter ego was involved in a gift exchange on the Bidding Board at eBay.

My gifter sent me two awesome Kimono panels that have been made into table/dresser runners. Not a very good pic, but here y'all go.

My best friend in the universe sent me a scarf that I *think* is vintage - Black Chiffon with teensy tiny beaded flowers in the dark blue/green aurora borealis. It's really Lovely.

And - I got myself some vintage putz mica houses for the tree - which are now my grand obsession. ;-)

This is a great thread! With mostly happy stories (sorry to hear about the grief you had to endure, Chris - some people, ack . . . )

Most of my presents weren't vintage, although I did get a fantastic book called 70s Style and Design, which I'm looking forward to reading from cover to cover:

But then we went to visit my mum a few days after Christmas, and she had sorted out a box of vintage trims for me that she used to use when she made hats to sell in her vintage shop.

I've started to sort it a bit (unknotting the thin 1920s trims/braids with the flowers and winding them around cardboard tubes for example) but there's a pile of treasures in there:

Those thin trims with the flowers she used to use when she relined old 20s handbags - they were a pretty way to disguise big stitches around the frame!

She had also read my blog post about some 60s mod magazines I have which mentioned Cathy McGowan - the 'queen' of the UK mods and a tv presenter - and decided that she would give me a treasured pair of Cathy McGowan shoes.

These shoes are probably too shabby to sell, but they're so lovely (and they fit me!) so I'll probably give them some loving attention and add them to my wardrobe:

Here's the logo on the insole of the shoes, which were made by Dolcis:

Yup, I had a great Christmas!

Sarah

Thanks Karin! You can imagine how I felt when I was handed that box of treasures!

Unfortunately I don't sew, so I will be selling the trims (which is what mum intended me to do) - although now I'm dithering about whether to list the whole lengths or offer them by the metre! :puzzled:

Which way do you think would be best?

Sarah
