Of course, thats a dress. It looks like a modern-ish label. Can you please post full photos of your item, so that we can see what it is?
Thank you very much for your comprehensive response regarding the production of Chanel clothing. Your insights are incredibly valuable and have significantly contributed to my understanding of the fashion industry. The CA # comes back as Donna Karan Canada Inc., and that company was in business from June 1995 to December 2018.

Two of the directors are Morris and Jeffrey Goldfarb, who are the owners of GIII Apparel

And according to their profile on Wikipedia:
"In 2015, G-III entered into a joint venture with another luxury brand, Karl Lagerfeld, to create and launch the Karl Lagerfeld Paris label in North America.[39] The company acquired Donna Karan International, the parent company of Donna Karan and DKNY, in 2016.[40]" The link leads to the news article that they acquired Donna Karan in July 2016.
So, the dress has to date from between the Fall 2016 and Fall 2018 collections, when they had Donna Karan and were creating Chanel for the North American market.
Thank you once again. The time of purchase coincides with your assumptions: the dress was bought approximately 7 years ago in Italy. Perhaps it was never exported, or it may not have been exported in time.I don't know, but Chanel must have come with Karl Largerfeld, as he was the designer for Chanel during 2016-18. GIII were importers, not manufacturers, so the dress was made in Italy under license. I suspect a reason why the arrangement didn't last long was perhaps because it was seen as a lesser line?
