What animal is this???

It's really nubby, I am guessing it is a lizard of some kind.

I cannot for the life of me find anything like this!

Looks like some sort of snake to me.

I think it's lizard. Too wide for snake, and you see lots of vintage lizard handbags, they're usually yellowy cream and black like this one.
