Hi! I found a gorgeous silk skirt by Soo Yung Lee for U.M.I collection. It’s the first time I’ve seen a label with Made in the British Colony of Hong Kong. Can anyone help me date this item!?

Oh wow thank you Lynne! I’ve been having a hard time knowing how to research online — it’s all so much retail and not retail history. I’m collecting vintage items to sell and some to save for my niece and nephew :)

Kate, I was able to find that reference in a database to which I have access through a library. I posted it here for educational purposes, so please do not post it publicly anywhere else, for copyright protection. As a graduate of a university, you may be able to research similar databases through the university library, or your local library.

Here is one other May 1975 blurb I found about your inquiry: "Soo Yung Lee, designer, has formed a rtw company under her own name, operating out of her home at 157 East 72nd St. Ms Lee was previously with Baron Peters Co., Inc. At one time she was with Sarmi, which sold her designs under the label Soo Lee for Sarmi Boutique. (Sarmi is no longer in business)..."

and

"(June 1975) NEW YORK: A bright young designer, Soo Yung Lee, has just opened her own firm of sportswear and big sporting coats."
