Found this dress at a thrift. It's new old stock; never worn with store price tag. It has no makers label. The union label was used from 1974 until 1995. Any idea when it was made?

To help narrow it down, while knits were coming into vogue by the late middle part of the 60s and "exploded" in the early 70s, that red, white & blue Union label was implemented in 1974 (early or mid year, I think), so your dress would date to '74 or later. I'm guessing it's ca. '74 to '76.

Thanks for posting the link. I went to your link, but the images were not there. Just the old box with the red X. Actually, I found the VFG label resource had great images of the labels. In my original post, I mention that I knew the union label was from 1974-1995. That meant the dress could be from the 70's decade, the 80's, or the 90's. I posted here because I wanted to be sure which decade it was from. I really don't ever want to misrepresent a item with the wrong age. Thank you again.

Oops, sorry--I didn't see your mention of the label below your photos! Just assumed, wrongly, that the question was between 60s and 70s.... (What I get for being in a hurry....)

It took me the longest time to sort out in my mind--without looking it up--the date the red, white, and blue label was instituted--I always used to mix up the 1963 and later date for the all-blue label with the 1974 and later date for the red, white, and blue one. I used to think: "is it '64 and later for all blue and '73 and later for red, white, and blue?" Finally have it, but took awhile!

I saw the tags, but did miss you found it at a thrift!

Don't you just love when that happens???

Yes, indeed! Although my local thrifts don't have much in the way of vintage, I've been pleasantly surprised at the few pieces I've found unworn with tags! Yeps, it makes my day!

We need a stamp: "All blue = 1963 and later; red/white/blue = 1974 and later."

I always used to first think, for some reason: "All blue = 1964 and later; red/white/blue = 1973 and later."

I think the problem is that they are so close: 1963, 1974--easy to confuse with 1964, 1973.... If one were, say, 1963 and the other 1978, it would be a LOT easier to keep them sorted out in one's mind!

Love your quick list, I know the darn images where gone now on the link I posted. Well at least we have a few resources to look at when we forget, of course the VFG one too! I just like images to confirm as sometimes we are in a hurry and its the subtle details that make a difference. Good points and thanks for posting on the Union tag because I love that we can really narrow the date on them down with those details:)
