hi all! i just wondered what people thought to vintage style clothing and reproductions. i for one love them, i love authentic vintage too and have been collecting for a while but i also like the reproductions.

any one else?
take care all

I don't have a problem with reproductions as long as they are labeled as such and in the correct category. It's when they are listed in the actual vintage categories that I have a problem with it. :)

I think they are absolultely great for duplicating the older, too fragile to wear pieces. And when well done, are pretty cool. Now a really well made reproduction dress out of period approriate fabrics can cost about the same as a period dress, so there's not a big savings. But I have suggested to a couple historic homes that want dresses for their docents that repros are the way to go.

I hate when people say their dress/top/etc is vintage when in actual fact, its not.....

I for one love vintage because it always has a story, you can have fun with it, and its one-of-a-kind....you dont get that on the highstreet...

having said that, i think all modern fashion is inspired one way or another by the clothes and designs of the past....

i also love the fact that the vintage pieces have a story me and my husband love the 40s and 50s and think we must have met in those eras in a previous live. i love it that when i wear an authentic 50s swing dress and petticoat, i think of who must have bought this dress first and wear they would have worn etc And i agree that when listing items it must be put as an inspired vintage piece and not listed as real vintage i see hundreds of them like that on ebay and i just know they are not authentic. But inspired pieces can be good or those who can not get into the vintage sizes.
take care all xxxx :D

Reproductions can also be made with vintage patterns in larger sizes and vintage fabric. While in a true sense it is not "vintage" it's nice that people who are larger sizes can get as close to possible to the "real thing." :)

I think reproductions are wonderful for us "curvier" gals, but I just love the "sense" I get with a truly vintage piece - almost as if it is "richer" for the time it has lasted and the lives it's gone through~
