What Era Is This?

So I have this cute little dress. It reminds me of the utilitarian wartime look....No label or anything, but zips up from the side (hip to armpit) with a nylon Talon zipper; pinked seams.

It is like a utilitarian wartime look, as interpreted in the 80s by my estimate. The deep armholes, wide sleeves and dropped shoulder seams really look 80s to me. I remember skirts with that type of seaming and pleats in the 80s too.

Looks great!

Thank you! Its weird because i grew up in the 80s and dont remember anything like this. But then again, I was wearing the mismatched Janet Jackson earrings and leg warmers, so Im sure this went right over my head. LOL..thanks :-)

I remember a little bit of a safari look coming out in the late 80s or very early 90s. But, I concur - 80s on this. At first I thought it was just too big for you and was pinned, but as was said before, the armhole placement is a giveaway. I think its interesting to go back and look at the fashion era we were young kids in and then take a new look at things that were a little beyond our age group then.

In that case, I would be tempted to give shoppers what your measurements are. Even though they'll see the measurements of the garment in the listing, people tend to visualize that it will fit like that on them. It might fit like it fits on you in the hips and waist because you pinned it and its just so much easier for a pinned waist to look nice when you don't see the mounds of fabric behind you that they are not seeing, but its not going to be as blousey up top for them. Oh, and maybe it will show people they don't have to be the full measurements for this garment to wear it too.

The problem with growing up in the 80s is that we easily remember the stuff WE wore as kids/teens/tweens, but not what the career woman, dressy ladies wore...you know, the gals that were, like, so OLD that were really just 30-50?
I know more about 50s and 60s than the eras I have actually lived through.

Awesome set, lovely pics, BTW, even if you are swimming in it. You did a nice job of pinning it to fit.
