What fabric could this 1950s dress be most likely made from?

I'm a complete newbie. I picked this 1950s dress up at a vintage store. It has no label. What kind of fabric do you think it would most likely be? It is sheer and thin but not slippery. What would be the best way to get smells and creases out? It seems very delicate so I am not sure if it can be washed.

It looks like organza - maybe made of rayon.

I'd recommend steaming it to get the wrinkles out. As for the smells, I always have good luck using Zero Odor and hanging the piece in the sun.
