I almost bought it today, but thought I would look it up first. On ebay, Pendleton and Woolrich both use the term. The one I saw is the brand name "Outdoorsman" -- no other name --and is made in Duluth, Minnesota. The label looks 1940s-1950s. It zips up the front and has a loose belt across the back. It was green plaid wool with a quilted satin lining.

Lynn, you are so good with jackets. Have you heard of this one? Anyone else?

ohhhhh! yes, yummy yummy wonderful mens vintage jackets!!

i used to manage a vintage clothing store called Ragstock, based out of Minneapolis...we used to get these ALL the time (mind you, this was WAAAYYY back in the LATE 70's and early early 80's) and we could NEVER keep them on hand...we had a huge clientele (fun fun fun rockabilly, lounge, and swing people!)

These "outdoorsman" jackets were for the man who was just that, an outdoors kinda guy...he hunted, he camped, he went for long thoughtful walks in the wilderness, and he LOVED to go to fun bars!! (oops...)

Most of these are from the 40's...the plaids were normally the "outdoorsman" while the gabardines were considered more "city-fied" and dressy (read: plaid = rockabilly, gabardine = lounge/swing)

The gabs are also referred to as Hollywood jackets, and some refer to them as Ricky jackets, although back in the Stone Age, a Ricky jacket is what we referred to the short-waisted zip front (often reversible) gabardine jackets as

get it get it get it get it get it get it....

The jacket was still in the store. It's a great jacket; I'm glad I got it. Here are some pics:

Thanks. I'm so glad I got it yesterday. Today I have some kind of intestinal bug and have been sleeping and emptying myself of everything inside, it seems. I also have a temp of 100. :violins:

Hey, I just noticed the odd spelling of Outdoorsman on the label--Outdorsman.

If that was a modern item I was thinking that the miss spelling was because it was a copy made in the far East and a printer could not spell seen that happen before.
Is it so that they can copy write , so you might be able to find out something more like the date it was protected etc. If you not ahead done that.
