Funny I just picked up a book yesterday by Nigel Cawthorne titled ' The New Look-The Dior Revolution'. It seems to have quite a bit about the war years and there is a little blurb saying how it became a craze in the 40s to make clothes from flour sacks etc. Mentioned that grain sacks went from very drab to brightly colored cotton during the war years.

I havent had a chance to really read much yet, but if I find anything interesting I will let you know.

Maybe your fabric is a grain sack fabric rather than feed sack.

I remember selling some a few years ago as feed sacks - you were supposed to be able to see the holes where the stitches had been and they were all within a certain size perimeter. And that novelty print is adorable and childrens' prints do particularly well. I was shocked (and pleased) when one piece went for @$40.

Deborah, you are so nice!

Yes, it if was a feedsack, you can usually see the holes. But feedsacking becamce so popular that it was also sold by the yard.

The quality of the weave is a bit of an indicator. If it is smooth like a bed sheet, it's not feedsack.

So they did sell by the yard.... This fabric is smooth but you can see the weave and is is not refined like a bedsheet...

I pulled a bag of old feedbag peices I forgot I had....I think the weave is too fine to be feedsack. But Iam confused thebag of feedsack Iam looking at has abou 30 small pecies all with different texteures. Some I think are too smooth but they have the stitching holes.

Iam on a fence thinking this is 20' or 30's cotton children's fabric. Or feedsack.... Iam leaning to the later... No I found a peice almomst matches mine Iam back to feedsack.

When the sun comes out I will fool with camera.

My peice is not as rough as yours.... The small rough drawn elephants and the tecture had me thinking feedsack. Close but I guess it is not.
