What is this metallic silver "beading"?

Hello!

I ran across this lovely gown and, although it has holes in the silk skirt , I loved the bodice and hope someone can repurpose it. The embroidery thread is made of a silver metallic material wrapped around what seems like silk thread or floss. Is there a name for this type of metallic embroidery? I would also appreciate your opinion as the age of the dress. The side closures are hooks and eyes.

Is it couched cord? where the cord is caught down with small stitches?

That sure likes like a silver foil trim that's been couched to the fabric. I have no idea as to the metal content!
