What is this tweedy fabric called?

It's rayon, but what should I call the weave?

before you said it was rayon, I thought it looked like linen. A "linen weave"?

This came from an old J.C. Penney fabric sample book. I have probably about 100 swatches.
 
That is super useful, Linda. I have not heard of Butcher Rayon, but I bet I have seen it and not known what it was. What is the hand like compared to a regular more run of the mill rayon and regular linen? And when is your swatch samples from (time frame)
 
It doesn't have a date on the sample book but that was 59 cents a yard. What do you think?

When I am not busy (ha ha), I will try to take pics of all of them for reference for everyone!

It feels about the same as regular rayon , just rough or ribbed.
 
interesting....i don't know! oh, i was just looking for a stab in the dark guess based on color schemes and such...

I will see if that factoid is lookupable anywhere!
