What is this \"WORTH\" dress worth???

I have come across this authentic Worth dress. WOW! is all I can say. Im thinking its circa 1890s but possibly earlier, what would you date it?? I have some ideas what it might be worth, but wondering what the experts have to say ,would really love your input on this!! It does have some splits (that make me want to cry), (mainly at the bodice) but due to this "to die for silk" fabric it really does not jump out at you from a distance. Again, WOW! Thanks!!!

mid 1890s is about right. That splitting is a serous problem though, as it will only get worse.

I agree, the damage is dire and not repairable. As much as I would love to own a Worth dress from the 1890s I wouldn't touch it myself because its not useable -- only a study piece. I can't say what the value is because its whatever you can get for it. A Worth dress of good condition is easier to assess because there is a steady market of collectors out there that would be willing to vie for it, but one that is damaged requires selling it to someone who will overlook the problem -- its a bit like selling a house with dry rot -- get what you can for it and run!

I wanted to concur with Jonathan and Hollis: you can't do much about shattering silk and it will only break your heart. When I've bought dresses before and this has happened, I've pretty much given them away as they aren't wearable and well, yes, they just get worse.

Sorry: no help on valuing. It's worth what you can get as a study piece only.

I did see a damaged Teens Worth sell at live auction a couple years ago.It sold at around $400 - $500? The buyer then offered it for resale on ebay and it didn't do any better. On the other hand, a damaged Worth of this period did better than that maybe 2 years ago on ebay. I wish I could remember what it brought.
