Thanks in advance!

Sparrow...... common theme (war theme supporting the sailors) or a swallow not plump enough for dove.. but when it looks like a swallow I tend to go sparrow... In WWII women sewed sparrows on clothing (dresses) to honor there boys gone to sea. In nautical terms a sparrow represent terms a sparrow represents 5,000 nautical miles, so it is basically saying "my boy is far away at sea"

Here is some silhouettes so you can compare. Hope that helps, I will look for that thread.

If you look at that web site I gave you, swallows have large V tails while sparrows have a smaller V like yours. So I am sticking with sparrow!

:-)

My daughter, the bird girl, goes with dove. Her reasoning is the size of the head, shape of the tail, and size and shape of the beak. A sparrow would, she argues, have a different shaped beak. Also, the size of the eye looks dove-ish, being large and, well, rather empty!

I think it is a stylized art conception. You could call it pretty much what you would like as I don't think it really represents any bird in particular. I see more of a dove or pigeon look in the body and head but the tail is more swallow or possibly sparrow. I would call it a black bird ;)

Oh, fabulous! I had always wondered why the sparrow was such a popular tattoo motif, too. And it's also often seen on women who are into the swing and rockabilly scene--so that's really cool to know its symbolic meaning.

Why, oh why did that get laid out upside down? That dress is very cool, Syd!
