what kind of fur is this? And how old?

hello, does anyone know what kind of fur this is-





It has small pockets at the bottom and hooks with a single large hook and eye. Does the stole date to around the late 1950's?
I bought it with this box:

Does anyone think it might be original, or just something it was stored in? Thanks for looking!:D
 
I'm having trouble seeing the fur. It could just be my eyes, though. Is it possible for you to post a larger, close-up of the fur detail?

I would say it is probably 50s and mink but I would need to see a closer picture, too.
 
My best educated guess would be 1950s and mink, too. The photo is similar to one I own and I know mine is definitely from the 1950s as it was my grandmother's. We even have a dated photo! How's that for provenance?
 
Yes, you can click on the photos to enlarge them- i'm having problems re-sizing my photos, so i thought using thumbnails would be better than super large. Sorry i forgot to mention it! So it's mink then, thanks for that! Does anyone think the box might be original?
 
I would assume the box is original. Usually when people splurge on something expensive, they always keep it stored in the original box!

It looks positively luxurious!
 
Another vote here for mink - and it looks to be in wonderful
condition.
