I am TERRIBLE with fur identifications, so I am here again looking to the experts. :bisou: I picked this up at my local thrift shop. I am also not real sure about the age either. If you need anymore info or pics let me know... :)

I couldn't ID the fur but do agree that it's earlier. My first thought was '40's - maybe even late '30's - early '40's. Same question about padding.

Linn

I agree with Linn that it may be late 1930's. If you look at the shape of the back it has a fairly distinctive flare. Does it have the original closures? Are they hooks and eyes?
That pelt colouring wasn't very fashionable in the 1950's. I wondered if the fur was rabbit made to look like something else or just rabbit but the kid goat sounds possible. Rabbit fur was used to imitated anything from leopard to ermine during the 1930's. I don't think I have seen a cape or coat made from kid goat fur. This cape looks to be made from pelts but perhaps it was designed to imitate pelts. I would unpick the lining and see how the skin is put together.

i agree with linn also, early 40s....and goat.

This style goat does resemble rabbit. At first glance I always think rabbit and then I say--but no--something doesn't look right, because it's goat!

So to answer a few of the questions about this piece. There is no padding at the shoulders and the two closures that it does have are hook and eye. I have looked at the fur resource which is very helpful, but since so many furs were made to imitate others, it's very hard to ID fur in my opinion anyway.. :)

Oh...you guys are AMAZING!!!:sunshine:
