I honestly don't know. It does have a grey root and it has various shades mixed throughout, black brown with silver tips. Very soft and fluffy and short. Most of the rabbit I;ve seen is either long and flat pelts or has very distinct wavy feel, if that makes sense.

I am quite sure it is rabbit and I say this because I have just been through a major rabbit incident with a coat of mine that I sold on Ebay. To make a long story short, I thought it was chinchilla even though I have seen chinchillas close up and I knew their coat was different to mine although the colur was the same, I thought maybe there could be different types. Anyway, the buyer ended up returning it because she took it to a furriers in Washinton DC and they said it is def. rabbit, a high end rabbit and yours looks identiacl to mine. This lady also said that in the 40's Chinchilla was hard for may people to get a hold of and so the rabbit coat with chinchilla colors because more widespread. Hope this helps. Beautiful fur too, mine is soft as silk!
