What Material Is This?

i posted this coat a while back and got a few cleaning tips. Its gorgeous, with a rhinestone brooch and buttons. At first glance, it looks like houndstooth, but its a weave of some sort. The black is actually some sort of thick yarn of some kind woven throughout..but can someone identify the material for me exactly? Thanks so much ladies!

For some reason, the fabric weave reminds me of a couch my parents had when I was young....

Dobby or Dobby weave?

I did find a black & white example on one site.
Not yours exactly but a checked pattern.

It's not a dobby. I would call it a novelty weave. The small yarns are similar to a basket weave, but the large yarns are single yarns.

Your photo is good so the fabric really speaks for itself. Claire

Houndstooth is a weave, just so you know (not that this is, as you knew).

I was going to opine that this is a novelty weave, so I am glad that Claire states that it is.

Duh, I knew that @ houndstooth. LOL..thank you Joules and Claire! Its funny, I almost DMd you on Twitter w/ a pic of it. I knew you would know. Its so beautiful; I just have to replace 2 of the rhinestones that fell out of the button and then I will post it. Thanks again!
