What sort of Label is this? 50\'s Dress

Hiya...

I picked up this gorgeous fringed shimmy dress and it is completely without any labels but does have this one paper tag down near the hemline. I am just wondering if anyone is familiar and if it lends a clue as to where this dress may have come from.
It *almost* looks like some sort of signature was there at one time but has worn off. What do you think? The dress has some wear and tear but is was so beautiful (the top is constructed of satin) I could not pass it up.

Thanks Mary Jane! I just keep having a feeling that there is something extra special about this dress. That tag is drivin' me nuts. I keep starring at it trying to read the black cursive looking words that USED to be there.

Thanks ladies.... I was fairly certain that it was 50's. I am hoping someone here can tell me when that sort of tagging would have been used? Am I making too big of a deal out of a crumbly old tag and should I just focus on the fact that the dress is a zinger and stop trying to figure out who made it? Lol.

can't tell you exactly why the tag is used, but I’ve seen it a lot on 50's/60s dresses. I don't think the writing on it would be of any importance. I always think of them as order labels, but maybe someone here knows exactly what they are. But it’s nothing really to do with the manufacturer of the dress I don’t think.

It’s a great dress!

Thanks guys... I had a feeling it was not going to lead me anywhere but I thought I would give a try on here anyway because you just never know!

Have a great night! :hiya:

I wonder if these labels were to identify sample dresses sent to department stores by manufacturers...the label containing order info?
