What to call these embellishments on a 40s jacket?

Hi, all. I'm a little stuck on what to call the little, um, thingamabobs embellishing the surface of this 40s gabardine jacket:

In this pic you can see, on the side of the sleeve, how they protrude:

They're oval, they're convex, and they're fabric-covered. The clusters are further decorated with very small little metal studs:

So what the heck are they? Anything specific?

Also, do you think this is short enough to justify "bolero"?

Thanks!

Lovely jacket. Not sure if there would be a specific name, perhaps passemeterie (sp?) or embellishments. The embellishments have an oriental flavor - I like. I think the shortness justifies "bolero" or bolero-ish.

Clusters of grapes! I see them now, of course.

Thanks all, and thanks for the kind words about the jacket. I sort of hate to part with it. Bought it on eBay years ago and it fits me, but I've never really found the right things to wear with it. So it's time to say goodbye to it.

Oh, Dianna, you're right! I missed that totally. The curve of the inverted "V" in metal studs is exactly the same as those in sergeant badges. The navy blue enhances that feel, too.

Good one!

I'm so delighted! Just had to share this. Only three days after I listed this jacket at fixed price, it sold, and the buyer wrote me this note:

Hello -- I can't believe my good fortune in finding your jacket! I have the exact same one except it's a pale rust color and the grapes have quite a few scrape marks. The color isn't very flattering on me and it's still my favorite. But to find it in such a beautiful shade of dark navy and in mint condition is mind boggling. Thank you!!

Isn't that swell?

Wow, it just keeps getting better. Tonight I came home from my Christmas dinner at some friends' to this note, from the same buyer:

Hi and Merry Christmas! Don't want to be the eBay pest, but I wanted to tell you that I wore my jacket for the first time yesterday and IT IS SO COOL!! I wore it to work -- I work at an Antique Market and enjoy wearing vintage there. I've been collecting jackets from the 30s and 40s since I was about 18 - 30 years ago - and this is definitely in my top 2 of all time. I'm absolutely thrilled with it. So, thanks again!!

Her "top 2 of all time"! I'm just grinning here. Not just that she's so happy with it, not just that she wears vintage in her "real" life instead of approaching it as costume, but because she took the time to let me know how much she's enjoying the jacket. After all the rotten stories we hear about buyers these days, I feel really lucky that she stumbled on my listing.

(I replied warmly and gratefully and did manage to mention that I have a beautiful beaded early 50s jacket in her size she might like ... )

I agree that it is SO refreshing to hear great stories and feedback from buyers.

I've had a few that have sent me photos of them wearing vintage apparel they bought from me.

One was a gorgeous vintage hawaiian dress and it was worn as a bridesmaid's dress at a wedding !!

..just a little reward for all of our hard work...
