What to do with Victorian Seal Caplet

A friend gave me this victorian era caplet to sell for her. She got it from a business in St. Louis that only dealt with dealers and retailers at a "Fill a bag for $5" sale. There was a tag hanging from it identifying it as seal fur.

So, what to do with it. Am I correct that it is illegal to sell seal fur items anywhere in the U.S.? I know I can't sell it on ebay, but what about etsy?

Hi,

Before recommending a link that explains the US policy on selling seal ...can you please take a close up photo of your fur? It may not be seal at all, perhaps it is other fur that was dyed and used as a seal substitute (like Hudson seal, etc). It looks bit less dense than seal, but it is hard to tell from your photos. We really cannot determine if it is real seal fur here on the Forum, as one needs to have it in hand to tell for sure, so you may have to do some research or take it to a furrier.

It looks to be circa 1890s to me, maybe 1895-1901.

Hi, It definitely looks like seal to me. You cannot trade seal online at all. I do not know where you are located but you can refer to the wildlife commission to determine what the requirements are to sell it locally.
