In November, The Queens of Vintage ran this fabulous blog article for the Vintage Fashion Guild: Have a Very Merry Very Vintage Holiday

featuring ideas for wearing, gifting and decorating in vintage style ~ in conjunction with that, the VFG would love to see what vintage you'll be gifting this holiday season!

Well... my best pal will be getting some fun vintage things themed around things she likes (pink flamingoes, poodles) - won't say too much here though ';), and I already bought two wonderful pieces of jewelry from Marcia from the Spectrum that she will get too! I'm usually very organised and have presents together early. Some other things I have too, but for some people I still have no idea... Problem is, with my new job, the busiest time has moved from January-March to October-December... But thanks to Etsy, there's lot of great stuff I can buy online!
In another term of gifting vintage, I always make Christmas cookies, and some of my friends get a bag of those as a present. The recipes are from my grandmother (at least -maybe they're even great-grandmother's, nobody really knows). She and my mom always made the same ones, and without those, Christmas is nothing to me - they just have to taste like they always did :hysterical:! That includes my mom's jam that one kind of cookie is filled with. So I use the exact recipes, without any modern additions or artificial ingredients, and without using things like an electric mixer - all mixing needs to be done by hand (or one would beat the eggs too much - these recipes were not thought to be made any other way than doing it all by hand). That includes beating some egg whites and sugar for half an hour! And I use my grandma's vintage cookie cutters, which I inherited, plus one of her old cookie tins which must be from the 60s at least...
I've also bought a lot of very stylish 1930s Christmas greeting cards, that I will use to make my own Christmas cards! I've used older vintage Christmas postcards in the past years, so this year I was looking for something a little different. I'm very peculiar about Christmas cards and find most of those one can usually buy just horrible...

I love using vintage Christmas cards too Karin!

I usually pick up vintage cookie and/or candy tins for my hand-made treats. I kind of LOVE this one with handles, from SanMonet on Etsy:

One of best friends just found out she's a distant relation of Catherine Parr, last wife of Henry VIII, so I'm giving her and her daughter these vintage crown pins:

Well, I've been gifting a few more vintage items - as December went along, I found several more things... I found a vintage Simplicity sewing pattern by chance that I just knew my mother would like (summer dress), and the Burda issue in which I found the funny carnival costumes, as well as a wonderful bakelite fish brooch. I tried to find another tropical fish brooch like I have, but no chance - but I stumbled across the bakelite one instead. And dad got two vintage books - one just for fun, a 1940s Swiss children's book, which is about a train-crazy little boy... well, my dad loves trains - and the boy has the same name as my dad. I've never seen it before, but mom and I spotted it at the vintage fair and had a really good laugh about it. It's too much of a coincidence to not buy it! Plus I got him a beautiful book on how the train lines were built in the 19th century across the American west and to California. Again I had been searching for something else, but couldn't find it. However, this book turned out to be a real find, as it's beautifully illustrated with a lof of old photos and maps, and it's as good as new (it from the 1970s). Vintage online shopping certainly was a happy alternative for me in this busy year :).
