This is a little stupid lite a tune in your head it's now annoying me, My mum bought in the 70's a brand new what we called a mink coat , now knowing what mink is like I am now thinking it was not mink at all just a generic name kids used , it was not fox either or rabbit ,

What is the option? ,

Bought in the UK and most likely made in the UK it was a very dark brown almost black and it felt softer than mink, saying that the fur length I think was similar to mink
Could it have been a Racoon ?
Did they ever use a bear or beaver fur in the 70's both not available in the UK at that time
Any other ideas welcome
Thank you for reading this

Hi Pauline, There were lots of furs used at the time. I would venture to guess that the fur if softer than mink it could have been black dyed sheared beaver, muskrat, or even seal. There was bear fur however the texture nor the length of bear fur is like you described.
