Hi, I finally got some more pics taken, I think this dress is from the 1960's, it has a metal zipper and bears the Canadian union label which was only used from 68-84 - but if anyone thinks otherwise please let me know!

What I really am wondering though is what kind of dress is it? like what do I call it when I list it?? Thanks! Here it is!

Vintage 60s pink lace party mini dress princess seams [size]

That bustline is so high, and the sleeves are a bit short, so I'm thinking it's a junior size. Is there a size label?

That's what I was thinking too (about it being Jr.), It has a tag, no brand tag, just a cardboard tag and the union label, the tag says it's size 11-12...would that be junions I wonder?? How do you tell Jr. sizing?

Love that descprit btw!! Thank you!

Val, my vintage rain-coat that I bought un-worn, with all labels intact, has the Canadian union label used 1968-84 and I'd say it's from the 70s. The label that was attached to it says that it's a junior size 13 M (I don't know - maybe M is for medium?), and that it's "specially sized for young juniors 5'1" and under".
The joke is though, I am almost 5'7" and the coat just fits - so it might well be that my coat is not the smallest junior size and your dress might be a bit smaller still. Maybe this helps ;) .

I have been wondering too though, for what age "Junior Sizes" were intended...

Junior sizes are odd numbers. They are shorter waisted and narrower through the shoulders. They are usually "cuter" than misses and more likely to appeal to the 25 and under, even though junior is actually a size range. Claire

That reminds me of this label on a 40s suit:

Oh well that's great, mine's an 11-12...lol just to confuse me :) I really think it's a Jr. though - at least it fit the mani, I have some that didn't!

Karin, I bet yours is miss sized, I have a size 7 jacket that fits me and I'm an XL!! I never trust the vintage sizes, I always measure - but then some of my patterns that are abviously for youth are SUPER long so who knows :)

Mary Jane - the lace there is see through so I think that's the mani's color coming through - good to know to not it though, if this was worn it was worn once, it looks brand new to me... it's so cute! I bet it's a miss - that's between Jr. and Misses, I have some patterns like that, I'll tag it Junior and miss though to be safe :)

Thanks again!

I bought this great '50's rayon dress earlier this year. It doesn't have a size in it but it is a Junior Petite. The label is "Shirley Lee." I am not short and probably not a junior size but it fits pretty well - a bit short-waisted. I do remember wearing a junior size in high school and through college!

I added the belt.

I agree with all the descriptive words that everyone suggested!

Funny thing these sizes! I have been wondering about these terms - Junior, Miss, Misses - a bit, I admit.
My raincoat is pretty long too... on someone 5'1" it would be too long in my opinion... I mean, it is quite long enough for me. Below the knee. It is rather short in the waist though, but the waist not higher than the high-waisted jeans that were "normal" still in the early 90s.

That 40's label is fun! I have a Winter 1947 Jelmoli mail-order catalog (Jelmoli is probably to Switzerland what Sears is to the US), that shows so-called "Girl dresses" and "Girl coats" (the word girl being written in English, which was pretty unusual and which probably was used to suggest them being trendy/modern/young), which it seems were geared towards teenagers.
