What would you call this fabric? 60s evening dress.

So I did my bi-annual closet clean-out today. I really went through everything - even my vintage. There are still a few things around that I bought on my first forays into vintage - some of those I simply don't wear anymore, because my style has changed, some of it I have never worn and don't really think I ever will, even though it fits me - it's just not "me". But I paid so little for these things then, and they were beautiful, so I bought them... but my buying vintage is more to actually wear it - I don't have space for a collection of clothes I never wear. Before I am going to list these things for sale, I will have some questions on a few of them.

First up is a fabric question - what would you call this:

This is the front of the fabric. It's all one color, but some of it is a bit raised - it's just weaved that way. I don't think this is a brocade, right? Fabric is synthetic from the feel of it, and actually a bit less white and more of an eggshell color than in this flash pic.

And this is the back side - as you can see, it looks completely different from the front.

It's from a circa early to mid-60s evening dress, which I think was made by a seamstress.

Thanks for your input!

Hi,

Julia, you are correct that it is a jacquard, but that does not define the name of the fabric. Karin, yes it is also a brocade, and a very specific type of brocade at that...racking my brain at the moment and coming up with brocatelle....but I am not positive on that. I think you could call it a novelty brocade, or simply...a brocade. It looks almost as if it was woven and treated to resemble matalasse'. Someone else will surely pipe in.
