I am pretty sure this dress is early 50's (feel free to correct me if I am wrong) and is a wiggle shape underneath (smaller at hem than at the hips) that front "sash" - is there a name for this type of treatment other than front drape or sash?
Yes, it is only to the front like an apron.. and the dress is actually dark navy blue rayon. I have to retake the pics in different light to see if I can get it to show that color. The "sash" is a heavy faile like material.
It is beautifully tailored both inside and out. The waistband is reinforced inside and it does not appear to be homemade but there are no tags. It is possible that it was seamstress made or somebody at home really knew how to sew.
