What\'s Blooming?

I didn't want to rub it in everybody's face when our plants were really blooming in February as everyone else had snow, so i am showing them now. I just took these pictures. How is everyone else's garden's/trees/plantings doing?

This is a Bride's Dream hybrid rose. we are going to get some antique roses..this one is so leggy. those just opened yesterday and this morning. A few more buds will open soon

This is confederate jasmine climbing up the tree...it smells great. we only planted it last summer so it is still establishing itself.

This is our "squirrel throne"

we have a lot of irises too, sort of in the day lily family but today isn't a day for the flowers to be up.

who is next?

Chris

Oh, a squirrel throne!
I:wub:U

You do need a fresh cob though..lol

We had nothing but dirt when we moved in in January so everything is freshly planted.

the adorable thing is that they actually most of the time DO sit on that little seat like they are at a restaurant. That cob was just put out and its already gone!

i love those flowering trees and Kayla's garden reminds me that I have to get goign on some vegetables if i expect to have any this season. i should have planted in january!

Your house looks great!

Right now in western NC, we are having a cold snap. The azaleas have come and gone, and the dogwoods are starting to fade. In the woods, the trilliums are blooming. It's still a bit early to put much in gardens, but next week my tomatoes are getting planted.

East Tennessee - Irises have faded, azaleas are on the downswing, rhododendren are coming into blossom. My tulips were nothing but leaves so they're ready to be replaced. Ahhhhh, spring.

Well... we STILL have the healthiest weeds in the county... but a little less than we used to. It's very time consuming (& expensive!) to relandscape a property as large as ours!

But... I did take some pics of our front yard recently..

it may not look like much, yet.. but keep in mind that pretty much everything here was FREE... we did it all on the cheap. You should have seen it when we moved in. All dying cacti, pretty much.

Oh! And we have a VooDoo Lily that finally flowered in the back!

When my Great Grandmother was still alive in this house she had a friend who owned a big lily farm down near San Diego and would send my Grandmother all sorts of exotic bulbs. Most of them haven't even bothered to bloom for the last several years (proabably too much competition with the weeds!) but this year we got the VooDoo, and a couple other ones like the tall white flowers you see in the front and a more in the back
Maybe I'll take a pic of the VooDoo for ya, if it's still healthy looking. The flower is HUGE and dark eggplant purple and it literally smells like death! We had no idea what the bulb was when we planted it, unfortunately, near the kitchen window! It reeks of decaying flesh to attract flies to pollenate it. Yuck!

Hey-- we're having a heck of a time with gophers.. anyone know any good non-poison ways to get rid of them?

Kristine

I love your ferns, Kristine! are those elephant ears i also see?

hmmm...i don't know about gophers, but maybe the same situation with moles...take away their food source and they will go elsewhere. Or you can just say they are here and work around them. if we plant more plants that have roots that are disgusting to slugs, they will go way and the moles will follow ...or... have a landscape with many nooks and crannies and live with them(?) faux mini gold course?

we added in ground cover in areas for Ms. Snake so she doesn't hide under our garbage cans anymore on the night before trash day. so now the trash guy or visiting relatives who might move it don't get the surprise of their lives because its not nearly as attractive a place anymore because there are better places. but of course, a snake is not nearly as invasive as gophers.

Daffodils and tulips are in bloom here although I have none in my yard. My lilac bush is loaded with buds and should be in full bloom by the end of the month.

Chris, we can't plant veggies until the end of May/beginning of June......short growing season for us. :( We just had a frost last night.....:barf:

Gail

Wild flowers - columbines, jack-in-the-pulpits, snowcrop, mayapple, larkspurs. The dogwoods and white violets are still in bloom, and the lilacs.
And the irises are blooming now, too.

The peonies and some of the daylilies have big buds, so we have hope there will be some serious color here soon.

Hollis

Yep.. lots of ferns. Several kinds, too.

And elephant ears! I love them! My GranPapa about had a fit when I planted them... said they'd take over. I told him I don't mind.. it's better than the weeds!

www.springhillnursery.com has some LOVELY dark purple/black elephant ears that I can't wait to get my hands on. Sooooo pretty!:love008:

I like them because they are very hardy. the other thing i had to adjust to and was a good adjustment is the jade can grow in a pot on the porch and doesn't need to be an indoor plant, and there are others too that survive really well.
