what\'s the story with ebay buyer glitzy* ?

hello :)

does anyone have any experience with this user? of of the items purchased was very expensive ($400).

any help would be appreciated.

thanks and cheers :)

I cannot help with your particular buyer, But I do trade online all the time and accept payments from pay pal for order up to and above you sale,
I take a few simple steps to check people out and make a judgment them. then cross my fingers

a, Get the real name and address... type this into Google and variations and see what it come up with, eg. (the address might be a factory and not a private house)
it might not be fair but is the area they are in consistencies i.e with spending $400 on vintage a luxury spend.
use you common sense to see if things look ok. Most people come up with reference on Google these days

b How are they going to pay, suggest a different way .. like cash see what they say. if they are running a con job on you then they are all set up and you changing their plan upsets it, explain with large sales you like cleared funds before you send goods,

c If they are asking for a very fast delivery which cost a large amount be carefully, as con always want the goods quickly so they can cover the tracks and as they are not going to pay you anything it is irrelevant to them how much delivery costs.

D See what else they have bought on Ebay is it a consistent , like all clothes , are they all expensive items?

E In my mind it is all about trying to work out a little about them, their habits, and finally how they can con you and get away with it.

It sound like a load of rubbish I written down but it's from 27 year in retail, it's sort of bluff if a con person thinks they have been found out they will run first and move onto a easier target, even if you are not 100% certain at the time ash questions?.
Honest people always understand, any question make them sound ambiguous then a con man or lady will pick up on it and the honest person will read it the other way and not be offended.
Good luck.

Actually,

a lot of times people have private feedback for many reasons and there is no reason for alarm.

1) they buy items that they do not want others to know about. Some folks who buy high ticket items do not want people looking through their feedback for buying pattersn, and then emailing them unsolicited to promote their wares. People who buy big ticket designer items or cars do this often.
OR they buy christmas presents for their sweetie, or an item that they would like to be discreet about such as lingerie or perhaps that would indicate a lifestyle choice they do not wish friends or business associates who might know their ebay id to know about.

OR they purchase items for clients..such as being a personal shopper and they do not want folks to know what they paid.

2) Someone left a feedback comment for them containing private information or obscenity. I have seen someone leave a phonenumber in feedback, etc, and the person makes it private until ebay can remove it.

As long as the feedback percent is high, I would not worry at all and let teh transaction go as planned.

I echo Chris's comments.

Also, I would refuse if a seller suggested or requested that I send cash for any item, let alone something worth over $400, and I would probably feel that the seller is trying to scam ME. There is no proof that cash was sent or received, and in my opinion it's just asking for trouble. Money order, paypal, or personal check with time to clear.

I would not accept a personal check for this large an amount if you have any doubts. Several years ago I sold some matching diamond bands. I waited 2 1/2 weeks for the check to clear and then mailed. A little over a month had gone by and I got a NSC notice (or was it she had closed her account?). Anyway, she knew what she was doing and I will never accept a personal check on fine jewelry again.

Just thinking:- Can you use electronic money transfer direct into your check account, (in the USA). Its cheep for large amounts of money , about 5 days to clear or should I say arrive in your account, I have done it to India and also had it sent to me for overseas into my account for large amount.

Paul you can do that, but it is not advisable in the US to give your bank account information out. We do it in our real estate business because the money is being wired to the escrow account of the title company, no one's personal account. It is much safer to have a US Postal Money Order mailed to you. You can go right to the post office and cash it. And if for some reason its fake (which is unlikely) you still have the item in hand and the postal inspector will most likely go after them.

You can have money sent by Western Union and get a check from a Western Union office. It avoids you having to give out your bank info to someone.

It was some time ago but I had two transactions with this buyer, one for a higher end dress and one for a gown.

While I don't remember much about the specifics, they were superb and submitted quick payment.

Smooth as silk, no problems at all.

The Private feedback seems to be quite common with some buyers, and they are very often some of the best customers.

Hope that helps. :)

nova (and all), thank you for the feedback.

i posted in the ebay forums as well, and someone sent me a note privately that they work with this buyer from time to time and said that she is great. so i think everything will be fine. i've just been out of the ebay-seller game for a while, and i think i'm a bit cautious.

thanks and cheers everyone :) t
