What\'s Your Era?

Instead of "What's your sign?" vinties ask, "What's your era?" on meeting new people!

So, what's your era/eras? What do you like to collect and/or wear for yourself, and what do you like to buy for resale?

Personally, my favorite eras for my own personal wear or use are the 50s & 60s. Unfortunately, I've lost the hourglass figure I had when I wore a lot of 50's fashions, but am working hard to get it back! And since I grew up primarily in the 60s, I love the mod look and the late 60's hippie styles. Though I don't wear the latter too much anymore--not the best look for a 50+ year old....

For resale, the 50s & 60s rule again, although I have a ton of 70's things in stock that I have to get listed. And I've been buying up 40's dresses, since they seem to sell well. I have some earlier pieces, but since I'm not all that knowledgeable about the earlier eras, I sort of ignore them. Sigh.... I'll get around to them eventually; I just don't think that'll ever be my niche.

I also sell a lot of lingerie, and have quite a lot from the 30s through the 50s for resale. I also love wearing vintage lingerie from the 50s through the 70s. So pretty and well made!

I tend to have that 70's does 20's and 30's look. I love deco and bohemian.

.but as far as my personal collection I tend to buy Victorian accessories.

Most Deffinately 40s and 50s!!! I love the war time eras and the whole rock a billy look... I guess I finally have a term for my style lol,,, Rock a billy!!!!

I'm so in love with it you can't imagine! Ok yall are vinties too, I guess you can imagine. My hubby is in the Navy and every time he is in his dress blues I try and wear a vintage dress so we can get tons of photos! He said he can't wait to get out so he can do a greaser look lol!

Yay, My hubby is so sweet and he really loves the old styles on me!

I think this is a great thread. I am attracted to '30's, '40's, '50's and even some early '60's vintage pieces, but they are all in my "style" which is very classic. I did some image consulting in the '90's and learned that there are various categories of personal style. Without getting out the books, the ones I remember are Natural, Classic, Traditional, Romantic - which might be the person who loves Victorian and Victorian inspired pieces, Bohemian, Sporty etc., etc. I don't think the term "Rock a Billy" or "Steampunk" were coined back then but those are certainly valid categories as well. I generally buy pieces that I can wear and I tend to wear them in a very "straight" way with the appropriate period jewelry and accessories - except shoes which are a problem.

I truly love clothes and jewelry from the '30's and '40's, and am developing a new appreciation for some of the '50's. Now I just need more closets.

I love 70s does 30s too! My favorite years in fashion are possibly 1939 and 46. I love Edwardian walking suits, full-skirt dresses or full skirts from the 50s, and anything funny or whimsical from any era. I feel most at home selling 40s, then 50s. If I found more 30s I'd probably be loving that as much or more. I personally wear all eras, including plenty of 70s.

I wear mainly WW2 (39-46), with a bit of '50s chucked in. Mainly because I find it suits my curvy figure - and it's easy for me to show larger ladies how they can look good in vintage too.

I envy those of you who are so knowledgeable about the earlier eras--once I get earlier than say, late 40s, I'm usually out of my element--except in lingerie. There I crave the 30s & 40s, and have a lot of it in stock, so am learning a lot about it.

Being born in the 50s, I remember my mom wearing some great full-skirt sun dresses and neat bathing suits, and growing up in the 60s, I feel much more comfortable in those decades. My figure at one time was definitely 50's appropriate--but I gotta go find it again!
