Which Mary is Paul talking about?

I'm on a Beatles kick today, using YouTube as a radio again.

So those of you "in the know"....in the beginning of the song when Paul sings "Mother Mary come to me", is he talking about THE Mary (as in Blessed Virgin, Jesus' Mom), or is he talking about mary jane, the herbal enhancement that the Beatles were known to take during their more experemental days?

I was thinking this is a nice song, talking about chilling out, taking the high road, letting things go...or they were just melodically

yes his Mum was Mary....I believe she died of breast cancer like Linda

I just heard an interview with Paul this morning on NPR. He's got a new CD out called "Electric Arguments." He worked in the studio with a trusted collaborator whose real name I've forgotten but whom Paul calls, simply, Youth. Paul calls himself the Fireman. They'd go into the studio each day with a clean slate and come up with one song, started from scratch, and get it recorded by the end of the day. Besides playing around instrumentally and electronically, Paul experimented with different vocal styles, often at the suggestion of Youth. Paul's name isn't on the cover of the CD.

They played some bits from it. Might not be my favorite Paul McCartney undertaking but it was pretty interesting. I really take my hat off to him for remaining so actively creative, year after year after year.
