Hi,

I thrifted this beautiful piece online, only to realize after receiving it that there were the word « CHANEL » written on the tag inside the jacket.

There is no other tags/logo/brand anywhere on the jacket.

Can you help me with this mister please ?

It looks like a Chanel jacket; I'm wondering if it's a knockoff and that word is meant to indicate the jacket style or model - i.e. that it's a Chanel imitation. Just an uneducated guess.

Interesting... as its made in Western Germany it has to predate 1990, which is before counterfeits are a problem in the fashion industry. There are knock-offs, but they don't try to deceive like a fake - they just copy the style. The label seems to be referring to the fabric content of the outer fabric, not the maker of the jacket, so I suspect the tweed was a Chanel tweed but a polyester blend?

Chanel did bottom out in that period between Chanel's death and Karl's renewal (1973-82), so I suspect this is from that era, and that this is some knock-off made in West Germany using Chanel fabric... but that's just my guess, so don't take it as truth. Maybe Clair will see this and know (if she didn't wash away in Palm Springs...)
