    Hello
I have found a beautiful vintage bridal ensemble by William Cahill Ltd circa 1950s-60s which states
“ Dry Clean Only Dangerously Flammable if washed”. Obviously have intention of any washing!!! But what is this fabric? Is it dangerous? Please let me know any details on this warning or information. Searched on line without any success.
    many thanks

Paper dresses always say that too. The material, probably the pellon lining, has been treated with a fire retardant that will wash off. As it, it's fine, and its no going to burst into flames, it just will burn if touched with a flame.

    Hello
Thank you for your reply. So the lining is the issue not the gown fabric, correct? Also if as is ~not washed~even if touched by a flame the lining will be flame retardant?
Easily understand this warning on paper dresses of the era but was so surprised to find it on a formal wedding gown. Thanks so much!

Is there a stiff, paper-like lining? If so, that's probably what they are talking about.
