The Costume Collection at the Brooklyn Museum is going to the Met. The article was in Tues. NY Times.

This is truly exciting--the collection is enormous and just over 100 years old. The Met's collection was already closed for reorganizing, etc. and probably won't be available for research for at least two years. I can hardly wait! Claire

I was just looking through my 1970's MET Costume Institute booklets. I did not know that some of those exhibits were put together by Diana Vreeland. Glad to see it exband as it has been.

Its about bloody time!
THe Brooklyn museum collection is one of the most important in the world and its been sitting idle for twenty years. It is all the director's fault too -- he is a modern art fan and shut down the costume department in favour of bumping up the modern art holdings and exhibitions (yup, just what new york needed - ANOTHER modern art museum!)

The Brooklyn Collection is very rich in Charles James, Schiaparelli, Lanvin, and Mainbocher. It's just amazing that BMA didn't consider it more important. In the end, I think the collection and those of us who love fine fashions will benefit from this transfer. C
