Wondering if this is Hawaiian fabric?

This is I think 40s fabric, and I'm wondering if it would be considered a Hawaiian print? There's nothing in the selvedges of the fabric at all.

Not sure if this question makes sense or if there is some kind of "standard" to tell Hawaiian fabric?

Oh, I made it myself! It is made from a 40s pattern.

The fabric is 35" wide and had pinked ends; additionally, that caramel brown colour seems to have been popular in the 40s. I could be wrong but I like it no matter when it's from.

So you'd conclude that's a Hawaiian print, then? I wasn't sure if it was, or just a similar large-scale floral.

There are a few different flowers in the print - the leaves that are depicted are not plumeria leaves. Some of the flowers are plumeria but not all of them.

If you do a search for Plumeria you will see the difference - or come look in my yard!

I agree it's a Hawaiian Print. What is the fabric/fiber?

Thanks! It's a nice crisp cotton.

Also, I'm not sure if it would properly be referred to as a print. It is totally doublesided, the design is woven in. Is there a term for that?

How lovely that you have plumeria in your yard. I would love to visit Hawaii someday. One of my favourite things about warmer climates is the beautiful flowers year round.

Jacquard or damask
I know what you mean but that's not it, I'm probably not describing it correctly. It doesn't have a right side or wrong side, the design and colours are equally crisp on both sides. But it's not like a jacquard.

The colors are more '60s than earlier.

I have a wonderful '40s rayon (print) Holomu`u that is very crisp on both sides. I don't have any other examples of Aloha attire or fabric here but I don't think it's unusual for a cotton print to be crisp on both sides.

Ok, that makes sense. I really like it whatever decade and am glad I went for it, I almost left it behind.

For what it's worth here are a couple of closeups of the fabric. It's identical on both sides; it doesn't have a "wrong" side.
