I recently found this jacket in a home we purchased. (I know nothing about fur coats) I just thought it was gorgeous. (It was bagged up and dont worry I have since hung it on a better hanger )
I Was hoping to get any info possible. The neck label looks like it has come off but there is some embroidery on the inner right side. I would love to wear out one day but don't dress up too often. So I don't know if I should have it laundered and box it up for one day in the future or if I should look into selling it so someone who appreciates it can enjoy it. Anyway, all advice, info on type of coat, fur, possible age, worth, If you think it should be professionally cleaned, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance ❤️

Hi there, pretty jacket. The fur is mink, the pelts are cord cut, also referred to as corded or ribbed mink, and the jacket looks like it dates to the 80s. A furrier would be the one to clean it as furs require different care than other garments.
When not worn the jacket should be hung in a cool spacious area away from light to prevent wear and oxidation.
The worth would be based on how much those looking loved the style. :)

Per forum rules, we do not do appraisals but if you check similar SOLD items on eBay, you should get an idea of possible value.
Just want to point out that the embroidered name on the lining is likely the original owner's name. Women often had their initials or name embroidered into their furs.
Also, please, in future posts, do put something in your thread's title about what your item is. That way, you'll get the most views from people in the know. :)

Ahhh, yes. I forgot about the name. The name inside is a monogram. Wearers often have their names or initials monogrammed inside on the linings of genuine fur garments because of the value they have in general. It offers personalization and identification.

Monograms are often the first initial of the first name, the first initial of the middle name, and first initial of the last name.
Not always though. When someone does not use their middle initial or have a middle name they often use their first name and last name.
When you get your fur the furrier may include a monogram free of charge and the personalization that the wearer chooses to have embroidered on their fur is up to them. When offering a fur one would say the lining was monogrammed as opposed to being embroidered.
