Bert Yelin info anyone?

I've wanted to submit some Bert Yelin labels to the resource, but just can't find any info on him for Lizzie. I even searched obits.

I get quite a few lingerie pieces a year, and they are always beautiful designs of excellent quality, and I also have a men's neck tie right now of his~ but no info anywhere on him.


I do know he has designed for Iris Lingerie ( have found weak info on Iris); his own label for Saks 5th Avenue; lamps, and accessories for Horchow and even golf balls. The guy gets around!

anyone know anything about him?

No help, here, Von, 'cept to say that I've heard the name often, but know squat about it. I "think" this name came up on the forum trade side recently? Or am I dreaming?

Can we see the piece the label is from? I love the wonderful lingerie you find....

This is the most recent, was trying to get this set listed today, its so simple yet pretty, a sheer white batiste cotton, with embroidery on the cups of the nightgown and the shoulder yoke of the matching peignoir.

would you think mid-70s? I have had bed jackets of his that were earlier, but I think this may be his later work?

From a 1980 article:

"Iris Lingerie, a 50-year-old company that was taken over three years ago by Saramae, a volume manufacturer, keeps prices down by producing everything in its own factories. One is in Puerto Rico, the other in SoHo.

"We order the Chinese handkerchiefs and the fabrics two years ahead," said Bert Yelin, designer and president of Saramae, "and we order in volume."

The company also uses a cotton-polyester blend that looks and feels like cotton batiste for those who don't admire the look of wrinkled cotton. Many of the Iris nightgowns are $30 and $32."

In addition to that 1980 reference I found ads through 1989 for Bert Yelin for Iris.

thanks so much Lynne~ this set is cotton/ poly batiste; and it describes the fabric exactly, so that would probably put this in the 80s. The embroidered flowers look so 70s it was throwing me.

I appreciate all your research :) wish I could find something on him. its so odd there is nothing just about him, only the companies he designs for.

He was my father and I can say that most of what is on this post page is made up and just plain wrong.

Well what happened? I also would love to know the history. I have a lovely Samarae peignoir set that rivals Olgas. It so well made will gallons of rich pink fabric. Even the robe is a full circle +and has pockets. It's heavy! Perefect condition. I wish it fit me!. I rarely see a Samarae set offered on line. When I do, it's always a size small. Makes me think they did small production next to how many Olgas are out there to this day. I want to sell this one I have. Seems to me it should be in the $300 range today.
 
my guess is that since he never responded again to Deborah's request for the history as he knew it, that he just chose not to respond. we're an all volunteer organization, and sometimes these type of requests for information never get answered, and sometimes they do.

I'll try to reach out to him to see if he'd like to share what he knows (his response to this thread is from 2018, so we'll see if he's still available with his profile information).

Your peignoir set sounds lovely! The Olga's we've handled have always been dreamy!
