    Hi Prulleke,
    I am in Brisbane-

Leons Dry Cleaners in Brisbane are a specialist dry cleaner and the best- they deal with bridal, as well as all the performing arts Companies using them including the performing Arts Centre and all the touring shows. When I was full time at Qld Theatre Company I often sent QTC vintage stock to them. Brendan is the manager if you want to give them a call, their details are : 949 Stanley St E, East Brisbane QLD 4169

I wouldn't touch it - leave it as is and either sell it on to a collector or museum, or wait until you know exactly what it would look like because if you screw up the cuffs the value will plummet. Check out L'officiel magazine for images of Jean Patou dresses. I would look between 1964 and 1966, and then again in 1971-72 - this is a weird little dress and difficult to date because of its styling and possible missing piece, but I think if you could find an image of it being modelled it would make sense. Also, I have to ask this just to be sure, but is the dress possibly on the mannequin backwards? I know the pocket placement suggests it's correct the way you have it, but it just doesn't seem to be fitting the mannequin very well.

  4. I think Jonathan may have something here. Can we see what the back looks like? Currently, the front bodice seems to have no accommodation for "the girls". Also, as shown, the button placement on the cuffs is odd. Generally, the button on a cuff is toward the back, not the front, when the sleeve/arm is hanging at one's side.

Anyway, it's an idea worth investigating.

Interesting idea that it might be reversed, however I've never seen a garment with a pocket on the back of the bodice, or the Z-fastening on the back (I have this exact fastening on a 1945 nurses uniform, at the front)
