I picked this one up exactly last weekend, as usual it didn’t look like anything special until my mannequin tried it on

Frosted mint green ,Fine pleated with gold trimming and also has a belt with bow

No label
Apparently it’s a dress from the late 1940s or early 50s, as I’m more knowledgeable on 60s 70s 80s vintage, I’ll be doing lots of research to find out as much as I can on this style of dress and the era it came from

That is a lovely dress. Can you determine what kind of fiber the fabric is made of? Silk, rayon, nylon or poly, etc?

I am seeing this as more contemporary than 1940s or 1950s. That Fortumy style pleating was popular around the 1980s, if my memory serves ne.

Could we see how the interior seams are made. As it is I see more of the 1980s.
Hi there Mary thanks for your reply, I was going to wait until the morning to take photos of the seam as it’s quite dark over here but I took a couple anyways will take more in the daylight also if that helps

Thanks for checking it out Barbara
I’ll have to get my local clothing specialist to have a look about the fabric. My antique seller friend said it was 40s -50s also the other items being sold there were that sort of age. But I really cannot tell, it did have a very old cupboard smell to it that has mostly faded now

I too am seeing 80s.

Seams look serged, which is a technique not typically used late 40s/early 50s.
Zipper looks to be metal? Not usual for 80s, but could have been custom sewn as a special occasion dress - I could see it as a lovely Mother of the Bride dress. Where is the zipper placed?
Are there shoulder pads? If so, are they soft foam rubber or firmer felted?
Is the waist elasticized or inset?

Hiya Maggie , I took a bunch of new photos hopefully they show the inner dress well

I made a quick diagram showing where the zip is , the shoulder pads were small and have pretty much deteriorated , but there’s some sort of thin plastic or paper in there also

l’m taking the dress to one of my vintage friends in London tomorrow for a third opinion
