Hi again, sorry to post another scarf one. The second is an unbranded silk (not silk oops) scarf that I thought looked vintage, but is maybe just retro/repro. The care symbols are confusing to me as the F in the circle looks like the one used between 1986 and 1994, but the washing symbol looks closest to the one listed as dating to 1994 and after. I cannot find a match for that iron symbol. I got these estimates from http://www.dressandtextilespecialists.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Wash-code-fact-sheet.pdf The reason I think it may be a bit old is the curling on the seam, which I think is older than the 80s? I am not sure on that really, just something I have noticed. Thank you, Alice
I think that iron symbol is older, and 'foreign' is an older thing to see on labels, though I'm not sure how old. By the colours the scarf could be 1970s. If by the curling on the seam, you mean the hand rolled edge, that's not a guide to age. It's a finish on scarves that's still used today - it's a sign of quality.
Sorry yes, definitely not silk. I have spent ages looking up when acetate was called acetate and when it was called triacetate etc, to help date it, so I should have known not to write that. Sorry! Thank you for the correction on the hand rolled edge. I had always thought it was something that denoted older, but perhaps that is simply because the only good quality scarves I have owned have all been older! Thank you for your replies and help
Thank you Midge. That list of labels looked like it would be very helpful, but I've tested it on a few things and it's not as accurate or as helpful as I thought at first. I appreciate your advice there!
Thank you, Alice. Our label resource was all written by members and depends on their knowledge and the information that can be found - it's a labour of love, and it keeps evolving, as we keep adding. The Fisba entry was written by me, relying on the info that I was able to find. It's not easy sometimes finding information on "smaller" brands. I was inspired to find out what I could because I was given a Fisba scarf by a friend, and then my mom mentioned that she knew of Fisba, because Mrs. Stoffels herself used to come around one of the shops that my mom worked at in her ski resort winter seasons (and she must have been quite a character!).
Oh sorry Midge, not this forum's list of labels, the list of care labels that I found from the Oxfordshire County Council. I think the differences between UK, US, Australian and other countries are just too diverse for that list to be truly helpful. VFG's label resource has been fantastic for me! Thank you for your Fisba one, I had seen Fisba scarves before and never paid attention until I read through that and now I know they are something worth keeping when I see them,, even if the pattern doesn't capture me. What an interesting job for your mum! My mum did that for awhile too, but in Australia, where the winter season is much shorter ha!
