As requested - here are some really quick pics of my Hattie Carnegie Christmas pin.
I tried to get a shot of the stamp, but no matter what I do, it's blurry.
As you can see, someone tried to repaint part of the leaves. I really wish they had not done that.
I'm thinking about taking it to...
So - am I allowed to post to this thread if I don't use a link?
I am always so confused about this stuff.
Thanks!
p.s. - I am in love with that pale blue linen, Maggie & the tape measure is entirely too cute!
I have to say thanks to you, Melody.
I have been having a hard time trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong as I don't have a great turn over, and I can list an item that is very similar to one that has sold for $200-300, but end up getting $30 if I'm really lucky.
So - I am in this mode...
I just wanted to concur on a few points.
> Your Bracelet is Lovely!
> That dude was a jacka$$.
I've done a lot of picking & trading with Antique dealers over the years. Here in Vegas, especially, they are for the most part, jerks.
The ALL play that, "It's junk, I'll give ya 2 bucks...
That is soooo Awesome, Maureen!
I have one piece of Hattie Carnegie - a Christmas Holly sprig pin that's missing a good bit of enamel.
It was at my local thrift & I watched it weekly as they mark things down regularly. It never sold til I got it for a Song! It's a rush, isn't it? :excited:
Can I please see the label? Just for curiosity sake.
It looks very much like late 70's to me.
I would highlight the Beading & Sequins, the Illusion piece at the shoulders & neckline, and the Accordian Pleating.
Love the open back, too! Very feminine & quite sexy inan understated way...
I concur with everyone about starting your bidding at a price you'll be happy to get.
As far as other sellers re-selling my items, that's cool with me. Like Kristine said - it's the food chain concept.
If I pay $3 for a garment & sell it for $20, I'm okay. If the buyer sells it for $40, I...
Thanks so much, ladies. I love the colors, too. And the print.
I don't know why I doubt myself with stuff like this. I just always need to be 100% correct.
It's been listed as 60's. :-)
Bravo, Mary Alice!!!
Now I just spent too much time cruising around youtube for 50's fashion.
Check this one out there: From Arizona: Western Fashion 1950's
It's all about Squaw Dresses. Remember a couple of years ago 'we' were told the term is Politically Incoreect? I got a big kick...
You can respond to feedback left on ebay AND you can ask ebay to remove it if it is a neg. Point them to the auction description or terms or wherever you noted the combined shipping. And from now on, ya may want to call that a "shipping discount." I use that. I think I found it in my seller...
I'm 90% sure this dress is 60's mostly due to the print. Cotton shirtwaist with really tarnished brass buttons. No labels anywhere.
Many Thanks! :kiss2:
A better look at the print & colors.
 kittens
Mary Jane - your best *tool* for getting the baby girl to fall in love with you is tuna.
That and time & patience. My mz_bunny was feral when I rescued her. I always spoke softly to her & tried not to make any sudden moves - that is until she wised up & became the Queen...
Thanks so much, ladies.
It doesn't make sense to me that the handles would be lucite & the base would be plastic, so I'm just going to go with plastic. And I agree about the purse kit.
I had wondered if maybe it wasn't one.
I don't intend to spend a lot of time on these as they are both...
Thanks so much for taking the time to help me figure these out.
1. Brown leather - faille lining - weird closure & the metal is oxidized on the doo-dads. Lucite trim piece. I think 40's? Is it older?
2. What's supposed to be cream crochet with a gold band near the top. I think it's...
I googled her name & found one picture only. The Indiana State Museum has one of her dresses.
Sorry, but as just a 'friend' I'm not allowed to post links.
I can't help with the date. You're right about it being rather timeless. But the zipper pull may be a hint.
As to the loops on the collar, I suspect there was a tie of some sort or a narrow scarf.
It looks to me like someone sewed the Joseph label in it as well.
What does the original label say, please? I can't see worth a darn.
Awhile back, Couture Allure wrote a very informative blog about people sewing high-end labels into vintage clothing. I can't post the link, but you should...
That's fab info! Many Thanks!
Hopefully I can get it to work for me in the future, but when I used "search" then typed in Charmode, it comes back as no such thing.
I need to press the D. Crystal dress. At first look, I thought 50's, but it really fits perfectly with all the Mad Men stuff I've been perusing, so I'm going with early 60's - I think. LOL!
I'll post pics of all of these later this week.
Thanks again, Anne.
